Problem with EC FW Tool!
Problem with EC FW Tool!
I own a Gigabyte Aorus b450 wifi pro that I used with an AMD 3700x and 4x8(32Gb) RAM. Recently, I upgraded some components, including the CPU to a 5800x. After updating the BIOS without installing the EC FW Tool, I encountered compatibility problems with the RAM. I attempted to install it later but faced repeated failures. Now I can only use two DIMMs at once. My current approach is to revert the BIOS to an older version, reinstall the tool for the new CPU, upgrade the BIOS again, and finally install the 5800x to fix the RAM issue. Any advice would be appreciated!
It's extremely tough to deal with problems from pressure on a PGA CPU. Unlike LGA chips, the pins are long and offer a decent contact surface. I assumed they've already re-seated the CPU and RAM, but it's worth a try if needed. Usually, checking connections is second nature, so others might overlook that.
Corrected the issue for you. If the original poster hasn't yet attempted reseating the CPU and RAM, it's a simple, fast, and affordable method to check for pressure problems. Also, I noted it can be challenging to encounter mounting issues with a PGA interface, though not impossible.
The information provided indicates that the earliest compatible bios for Zen2 CPUs is F40. If you need an older version, you must first perform the EC firmware update before upgrading to F40. Because your board was shipped with F40 or newer, the additional step becomes redundant. This suggests your problem isn't connected to this tool or its embedded controller.
I explained the steps taken so far. Initially, I reset everything, then tried resetting the BIOS by removing the battery, but no improvement was seen. Right now, I’m using the PC with just two DIMMs installed (though I’m not certain this affects the issue, possibly because it avoids the pressure concern).
It's not the case, you need either a single channel or one dual channel running, both often linked to mounting pressure. Take out your CPU cooler, reattach the CPU, and test without it. If it still works with four DIMMs, switch them around.
