Hello, fellow forum members! I'm facing a minor issue while trying to connect two computers on my local network as a temporary solution until I can afford a proper server. The problem is they don't seem to communicate with each other at all. My desktop and laptop are both using static IP addresses, but the laptop didn’t get a DHCP assignment even after I tried. I’ve used DNS addresses from my router (including those from Google) and some public IPs, but it still doesn’t work. The wireless phone on my network can reach the laptop, yet both seem to be pulling from the same IP range. Any suggestions would be really helpful! Thanks a lot!

Check other WiFi gadgets for identical issues, regardless of whether they can ping each other. If not, consider using a second router as an access point and disabling WiFi on the primary router.

I also used a different laptop that was sitting unused, and it had the same problem—can’t connect to the other two devices but works with my phone. It looks like I’ll need to discuss this with my ISP for clarification.

It would have been reasonable to expect client isolation to work across WiFi clients, which feels like an incomplete setup.

Windows manages file sharing and time synchronization. If the time and date don't match, sharing won't work between machines.

Could you provide the IP adres and subnet mask of the devices you are using. and maybe give a small schematic overview of the setup?

Could you clarify if you're looking for firewall configurations that block ICMP traffic?
