No, an outdated BIOS wouldn't even boot since it wouldn't recognize the CPU. I've witnessed this numerous times.
Bring the motherboard to a repair shop and request them to update the BIOS for you. It will incur a fee, but it's one of the few solutions available, aside from purchasing a compatible CPU.

small sounds:
No, an outdated BIOS wouldn’t even boot since it wouldn’t recognize the presence of a CPU. I've witnessed this numerous times.
Bring the motherboard to a computer repair shop and request a BIOS flash. It will incur a cost, but it's likely the only solution unless you purchase a compatible CPU.
Doesn't Asus offer a method to update the BIOS without a CPU installed?

I haven't come across that before, but I'm uncertain.

Scoregie:
Everything is fine; I was considering this: http://event.asus.com/2012/mb/usb_bios_flashback_guide/. It’s about time they introduced an onboard chip to manage that. Great concept. If only it could just convey a brief, straightforward message indicating that an update is required. My previous 775 motherboard did. It displayed a message similar to "processor not identified."

It's not the BIOS; the BIOS versions are up to date.

Which particular BIOS version is it? That motherboard supports approximately seven distinct BIOS versions.
