Nope? The testing didn't show major anomalies in Hardware Unboxed. For the games included, differences are minimal—often just a few percent, with most showing no significant change. Power-limited builds perform best for the 12400/F model, as noted in their review. I’m not sure if any game is truly out of the ordinary, but I still question whether any single title released so far or upcoming will deviate more than 4-10% from the norm. If you’ve noticed something unusual, share the link or video. I’m open to tweaking settings for each game—I love customizing settings, especially with Warzone 2 and ARMA 4! But that’s not typical with others. Oh, 12700KF, let’s set aside what I’ve mentioned. Unlocking power definitely offers clear advantages. Which MSI motherboard do you own?
The Techpowerup review covered ten titles. At 1080p some games improved their frame rates when power limits were turned off. They used DDR5 during testing, but it's unclear if this affected results. The strongest improvements came in Battlefield V, Borderlands 3, CS:GO, and Far Cry 5. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel...0f/16.html
I see everyone is under 10%. I’d personally benefit from those improvements, like in CS:GO if I were still playing. From a factual side, I don’t fully agree with @lee32uk and myself. A cooler would handle power limits without issues, wouldn’t freeze completely, but would gradually lose some gains—just enough throttle. Here’s a rough estimate of the throttling on the Arctic I13 and SilentiumPC Spartan 5/5 Max: links provided. There are no Freezer 13 X options, though they’re marginally better than Freezer 7.
Far Cry 5 and Battlefield V each exceed 10% (around 14%). This impact was minimal for titles such as Cyberpunk and Tomb Raider. The 12400/F model stays cool even with unlocked power caps. The Techpowerup test used one tower Noctua cooler and reached 46°C during blender use. A standard CPU was at 41°C, resulting in just a 5°C variation.
Sorry about the math mistake. It doesn’t really add up for most people. It has a 92mm fan and two heatpipe coolers, usually running quietly at medium to low noise [links I shared].
Your motherboard is an MSI Z690 Edge with Wi-Fi and DDR4 support, paired with a 360mm Corsair Elite Capcel AIO.
