Hey everyone, I shared this same problem on Reddit and didn’t get much assistance, so I’m reaching out here for advice. It seems my computer has been getting quite warm lately. I bought this prebuilt from CyberPower but have made several modifications myself. I upgraded the CPU, motherboard, and cooling system, so it’s now a completely different setup. Here are my specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (not overclocked)
- RAM: T-Force 16GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT with 8GB memory
- Storage: Two 1TB PCI-E NVMe SSDs
- Motherboard: ASRock B550M Steel Legend Micro ATX
- CPU cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II (280mm)
- Power supply: 800W Apevia ATX-PR
- Operating system: Windows 10, BIOS version 5/17/22
My case has good airflow overall. It features a glass front but includes two gaps for better ventilation and a mesh top, so I don’t think the case itself is the issue. For testing, I played Assassin’s Creed: Origin. When launching the game, it automatically optimized graphics to the highest setting—something that usually happens on first launch, even for demanding games. However, if it crashes, my screen goes black and the PC restarts.
I removed the front panel while playing to check cooling performance, but the game still crashes. I’m unsure whether the cooling system is faulty or if I need a more open case. The GPU temperature rarely exceeds 85°C, but sometimes reaches around 101°C at the junction. That’s quite high. I’ve read that junction temperatures aren’t critical, but 101°C is still concerning.
I’m wondering if I should buy additional fans or upgrade the GPU later when conditions improve. If overheating persists, would a completely new case with better airflow help? Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.
It seems the issue isn't with the GPU. Your Sapphire Pulse 5700XT has been operating at those temperatures since the start, and there are other models that perform much better, such as MSI Evoke, Asus TUF, Asus Strix, or AMD reference chipsets. Could you check the CPU temperatures? Using the newest AMD drivers from AMD Support might help.
It seems your situation might be the main concern. CyberPower often uses aquariums lacking proper airflow for high-performance chips, which is why I was told to build a completely new system for my 5900X. Without clear photos or details about the exact model, it's hard to confirm. Sharing some images or a screenshot from their site would be helpful. Many users fit AIOs into NZXT H510s, but they often overlook that the front blocks airflow and the radiator restricts side vents. I can assure you though, an AIO won't work if it can't draw in air.
For your reference, my 5900X runs between 38-43°C idle, moderately at 58-65°C under load, reaching up to 70-72°C with a Scythe tower and six 120mm fans in a Fractal Pop XL Air. These chips definitely don’t need liquid cooling.
Also, check your fan placement: ideally you should have three front intakes, one rear exhaust, and two top exhausts for optimal performance.

It looks like you have enough cooling capacity. Having two front fans works, three is optimal, but the temperature issue remains largely due to the front unit being nearly sealed—those fans aren’t allowing airflow and are inactive. It seems the side intakes are blocked by the front radiator. This mirrors the situation I described with the NZXT H510. There’s a version of the NZXT H510 called FLOW that addresses this, available in white and matching the look. It also includes a front air intake gap similar to what I mentioned earlier. Just a note, there’s a white FLOW model you can use if you prefer.
If you’re staying with your current setup, consider adjusting the radiator placement: move the top radiator outward for better heat release, or reposition the front fans if side intakes are blocked. Alternatively, modify the case to improve airflow at the bottom.
For better cooling options, most Fractal Design and Corsair models would work well. The Corsair x000X line offers a similar style with a front air gap (my 5900X setup handled it nicely with about 34 sq in of airflow). It comes with three fans and basic RGB control. You can adapt it to your needs by adjusting the standoffs.
4000X, 5000X, and 7000X are tower, mid-tower, and full-tower variants respectively. D Airflow models provide improved airflow with a more subtle look but fewer fans. These come in black or white and support 280–360mm radials on the front and top. The Fractal Pop XL Air I is another solid choice—it has a front air gap, RGB control, and should handle your situation. It’s multi-form factor; just position the standoffs properly.
4000X, 5000X, and 7000X models have front and top dust filters (though I wasn’t sure about the top filter—usually it’s for exhaust). D Airflow versions include them too. They’re available in black or white, though solid white is rare. These don’t include intake air filters.
My current build uses an Asus Tuf B550-PLUS ATX with an R9-5900X topped by a Scythe Mugen 5 cooler (around 153mm), six Corsair fans, a 6TB HDD, and a Pioneer Blu-Ray drive. It has room for 2–4 more drives. There’s also strong talk about the Fractal Torrent case—it’s stylish and offers two internal bays for optical drives. Prices are fair, though some extras can raise costs. Front USB-C, vertical GPU mount, etc., are nice touches. White options exist but aren’t solid white. These models lack intake filters.

@191x7 has some insight. Overheating might lead to shutdown, but I believe a full thermal shutdown would require even more severe conditions. From my experience, RAM stability is crucial with Ryzen processors. My 5900X build suffered for months because the board rejected the RAM I used—it wasn’t on its Qualcomm Vendor List. @Okeree here provides the Vendor List for your board with a Vermeer (5000-series) chipset... Review it to see if your RAM’s SKU matches. It could very well be the culprit.
