Checked task manager during gameplay; it seems the software or drivers are consuming excessive CPU resources. Likely a hardware or driver issue.

I managed, but the main culprits were the game itself, Skype and Steam. That shouldn’t be a major problem if I’m correct—I’ve already tried closing them all to check, but it didn’t resolve the issue. Even when I’m running at full disk usage, is that typical? I’m not very familiar with PC setup.

I’ll share a tale I’ve lived through using Acronis True Image for backups. A background driver would sometimes cause a blue screen when I connected a USB drive. The installed program might be the culprit or there could be a conflict. My advice was to monitor Task Manager to spot resource-heavy processes, or consider a fresh Windows install with nothing but one game. If that seemed too drastic, maybe check for DirectX or .NET Framework issues—though I’m not sure. It might help to ask on forums; they’re skilled at digging into memory dumps to find the root cause. Sorry, I realized on Taptalk that my account was linked to another person.

Temperatures might be leading to performance limits. Verify your readings using the Hardware Monitor.

I'll reset my PC soon and reinstall Windows 8 to ensure it's clean before trying again. I've already checked Task Manager during gameplay, but CPU usage never reached 100%. A friend with more PC experience cleaned my system using Ccleaner, reinstalled drivers, updated the virus scanner, and restored DirectX and .NET framework. It seems lag only occurs during online games like LoL, WoW, or Tera, while my MS remains steady at 10-20 ms. Thank you for your help—I'll share a thread on 8 forums.

I checked my temperatures during gameplay and when performance dropped, yet everything appeared normal and no overheating occurred.

I also noticed my disk usage spikes frequently to 100%, even when I'm not playing. It happens when I close tabs that were open for a while, jumping straight to full. Does this seem like an issue?

It might be the issue while playing online, as your hard drive is being utilized and something is interfering. I recommend sharing this on Windows 8 forums; they’re helpful. The main concern is your storage consumption increasing rapidly, which causes lag in your games.

My guess is the hdd as well. Sounds like it's having trouble keeping up. Also, sometimes Diablo just lags when there's stuff on screen, it even does it to me with a 4670k @4ghz and 760gtx. Warcraft was famous for horde lag as well, when someone else popped into your area the game would lag.
