I’m not sure about this. It seems like a mix of possibilities, but I don’t have any proof. Regardless, the original poster shouldn’t need to worry about frame rate, should be able to achieve over 250 FPS, whether or not shaders are used.
Shaders operate within GPU limits, whereas Minecraft's native implementation functions within those bounds as well.
In vanilla Minecraft you really need strong CPU performance; anything beyond quad-core is just wasted resources. On the GPU side... it’s a bit confusing. Going for extremely high FPS can cause unexpected issues. Regarding NVIDIA or AMD: it doesn’t really matter much, since the game uses LWJGL and OpenGL, and isn’t officially supported by any GPU maker beyond what I know.
