Hey guys,
I wanted to share my current setup:
Corsair Carbide Series Air 540
Intel i5-4670k
Corsair H110
Corsair Vengance pro 4GB *2
MSI Z87-G45
Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB
Western Digital 1.0TB Blue
ZOTAC reference GTX 780
FSP Raider 650W PSU

I noticed significant drops in FPS during games like Tombraider, Metro 2033, and Need for Speed most wanted. Most of these drops happened when there was smoke or physics effects. Running 3dmark11 with and without the graphics card showed my physics score was quite low (below average). On stock CPU I’m around 6000 for physics, but at 4.3Ghz it jumps to 6200. When comparing similar builds, people are averaging about 8500 for physics. Could this mean my CPU is the issue?

I’m not sure how to adjust the physics calculation settings. My physics test on 3dmark Firestrike Extreme (stock CPU clocks) gives me around 17 fps, with a combined score of 8. If I overclock to 4.4, I get about 22 fps and 11 fps. Comparing with others with similar builds, my 4670k seems to be lagging behind most non-K CPUs.

The temperatures are normal, staying under 62°C during benchmarks. I’m not sure what “throttled CPU” means or how to fix it. Any tips?

I also face a comparable issue with my 4670k—it appears to be scoring lower than others. Are you using Windows 8?

It looks like the results are quite low, around 7600-8600 for physics 3Dmark11, which depends on the clocks on a 3570k. Have you looked into your CPU usage and core clock readings during the test? Were there any power-saving features limiting the CPU performance? Trying to reset the BIOS to its default settings might help. A throttled CPU typically happens when it overheats, reducing its speed to lower power consumption and temperature. Also, check your temperatures—make sure the cooler is installed correctly. I use an open hardware monitor to track these metrics, providing a time-based graph.

it seems the numbers are a bit off, usually ranging from 7600 to 8600 based on the 3570k clocks. Have you looked into your CPU usage and core clocks during the test? Were there any power-saving settings limiting performance? Maybe resetting the BIOS to its default state could help. A throttled CPU often happens when it overheats, lowering its clock speed to cut power and temperature. Also, check your temperatures—ensure the cooler is installed correctly. I use an open hardware monitor that displays trends over time. My stock unit stays around 50°C max, but reaches 70°C at 4.5GHz after overclocking. I’ve attempted a CMOS clear to reset the BIOS.

jimthenagual :
I have an i5 4670K @ 4.2Ghz
FIRE STRIKE
Physics Score 8412.0
Physics Test 26.7 fps
Check your cpu temps for overheating
cpu is definitely not overheating

Holding onto these items, but are there other processes using CPU? You might want to look in Task Manager.

keeping an eye on the situation, but are there other processes using CPU? It might help to check the task manager. I usually shut down unused programs during these tests.

it lowers its clocks in an effort to cut power consumption and consequently its heat. how might i prevent this from occurring?

I'm experiencing a similar issue with my 4670k, and it appears to be scoring lower than others. Are you using Windows 8?
