Performance stays at 4.7GHz despite 9900K settings
I set up a 9900k with an ASUS Maximus Hero XI and a Noctua D15s, and it consistently reached 5ghz. After a complete Windows reinstall, I updated the drivers and saw my GPU improve marginally. Now my 9900k caps at around 4.7ghz, and my scores are lower. Temperatures remain similar. It’s a bit higher than before, but still manages up to 72c on Cinebench r20 and time spy. Not fast enough to prevent throttling, though. Curious about what caused the drop in performance.
I believe I began with Windows and later switched to Asus, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear distinction. I’ll check which one is better for you.
It's currently capped at 4.7. Since the Windows reinstall, no core has exceeded it. Previously, I could monitor hwmonitor regularly and other cores typically reached 5GHz, suggesting multiple cores were near 4.9.
I pressed f7, reset everything to defaults, and the only adjustment was a slight increase from 4.7 to 4.728. Turning on XMP restored my DRAM speed to 3600MHz, but it dropped back to 4.7 again.
This would reset my bios to the default settings, correct? I'm new to this process.
I believe I should remove all this unnecessary Asus AI suite. It’s overwhelming and completely unnecessary. They even included a silly sonic radar overlay in BF4 that was tough to eliminate. It seems like the system is just packed with bloatware. What about the Asus Armoury Crate? I have no idea what it does, but it appeared when I reinstalled Windows and asked me to install it right away. I thought it had essential drivers.
