Performance not meeting expectations at 13,600kf.
Hey, I’m facing some issues with my 13600kf. It’s been running for a while now, but lately it hasn’t performed as expected. On Cyberpunk, the processor struggles to maintain 60 FPS in busy zones like Tom’s Dinner or V’s Megablock Street. I’m playing at 1440p DLSS quality with high settings, yet crowd density is medium. My Cinebench R23 score is only 17,000, far below the 23,000 I’ve seen online. I’m still learning about PC building and these CPU matters are probably where I’m least sure.
My setup includes a 3060 Ti, 13600kf Z690 DS3H DDR4 16GB, 3200MT/s dual channel Coolermaster AIO, and a 550W PSU. From what I checked before buying the rest, it seemed fine. The PSU might be underpowered. I assembled the PC using leftover parts from a pre-built unit—kept the RAM, power supply, and case. I double-checked power calculations and didn’t tweak the BIOS or try overclocking (the last attempt caused the system to fail).
In games, the CPU boosts to 5GHz in-game, but I’m stuck at 4.4GHz. The TDP is supposed to be around 150–170W max, but mine only pushes about 100W, while my GPU draws roughly 200W. During stress tests, the GPU hits 200W, CPU 90–100W, and clock speeds jump from 800MHz to 5100MHz—averaging about 4400MHz (4.4GHz). I ran a CPU-only test: if the PSU were the bottleneck, it should have reached max TDP (170W) with full speed, but it only got 100W. That’s confusing.
Another thing that worries me is my RAM. I got two 8GB sticks from a prebuilt case, which aren’t XMP-compatible on my motherboard. I’ve heard such RAM can limit CPU performance, but I’m not sure how much of an impact it has here.
I’m open to advice—any tips to fix this without spending much money? Thanks ahead for your help!
In the bios you can likely adjust the CPU power cap. It might be set incorrectly. Your CPU temperatures seem reasonable based on what I see. It seems neither your PSU nor RAM are causing issues. A 550W rating looks fine for your setup. You might consider undervolting both the GPU and CPU, which could reduce power use by over 50W. Notice that here PL1 and PL2 limits are at 4000W, while your 16GB RAM is on the lower side these days. Keep monitoring your usage; you can use afterburner to fine-tune it. I sometimes go beyond those limits. However, 3200MT/s isn't too high. I'm not sure if you have a 3200GB RAM without an XMP profile. Is it running at 2133MT/s? Edited October 8, 2023 by leclod
You increased the power limit to 4095 but performance stayed the same. Your clock speed remains around 4400Mhz and you're still at about 95W. The BIOS lists 3200MT/s, but it’s hard to verify live. Undervolting could actually slow things down if you’re not careful. Trying overclocking again might help boost speeds. Before this model, you upgraded from a 10400F—changing it helped because it struggled in games like Deathloop. Looking at benchmarks, both CPUs were lagging, so the bottleneck was likely the RAM. With two sticks, the combined speed should be around 3200MHz, which is typical.
I refreshed the bios about a month back and still don’t see any details about the motherboard’s restrictions... It’s really confusing what’s happening.
Wouldn't restricting power at 125W affect a 170W total design power? Edit: Likely no, updated October 9, 2023 by leclod
I attempted to switch it on and off, but still had no success.
