Performance metrics show GPU usage significantly lower than CPU activity.
Hey there, I just purchased an Rx6500xt. Before that, I owned a Gtx 680 Ti which didn’t perform well, so I went for this card since it was affordable at 160$ on Amazon and looks decent for its price. As a casual gamer, it’s not too bad. When I started using the AMD Adrenaline app, the GPU usage was significantly lower than the CPU. I checked my drivers and everything seems up to date. Is this typical? I actually get higher FPS on my older 10-year-old card than on this one. Any advice?
Referenced earlier posts highlight the CPU bottleneck issue. The weak i3 is doing its best, but it's still just an i3. It would be better to sell it and buy something priced around $12,600. Right now, many sites list it for just $200, which is a minor upgrade step.
It varies by game. I experienced the same CPU limitation in Fallout 4 with a 3570K and a 1060 6GB. Your bottleneck isn’t unexpected, but it won’t occur with every title either. Reducing it might be possible at higher resolutions, though that would likely require a more powerful CPU.
It's interesting since I have a 60Hz monitor and with ultra settings in Overwatch, I see 60-61 FPS without VSync.
It might have been a Windows update or background activity, but we simply don’t know enough. Things seem fine now, though there’s not much detail from you. Resolution, settings—especially Ultra—don’t specify frame rate, and other factors like VSync aren’t mentioned. Personally, I’m using maximum Overwatch settings: 1440p, ultra latency, fast sync, 120fps lock. My GPU usage is around 55%, CPU around 10%. For context, that’s normal. Still, more info would help.
