Hello, I discovered my PC is noisier than usual. After playing games, CPU temperatures reached 70°C. I applied thermal paste and thought it resolved the issue, but it didn’t. Using Ryzen Master to stress-test the CPU, along with HWiNFO64, Task Manager, and FanControl, showed temperatures dropping while fan speeds decreased during the test. Now I’m puzzled and need assistance. I haven’t altered any BIOS settings and am using Windows 10 Professional (x64) Build 19043.1706 (21H1). Specifications: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 6-core processor at 3.70 GHz with bequiet! Pure Rock 2 black, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX (MS-7A38) BIOS Version B.C0, 16 GB DDR4 SDRAM, dual-channel, 750W PSU from Bequiet. Two case fans. I looked up the idle temperatures for this CPU and they range around 35-50 degrees with the stock cooler. It feels odd that the fan stays on full speed constantly.

@Tomberry Everything seems fine, just the way the CPU operates. This is typical for Ryzen chips and you can confirm it from your measurements. When the CPU is mostly idle, it puts most cores into sleep mode, allowing a few to run quickly at 1.4V. Although that voltage generates some heat, the low overall power draw lets it manage it. Under stress testing, the cores would try to run all at 1.4V, which is risky, so the voltage drops to 1.2V, spreading the load and reducing hotspots. After the test, most cores return to sleep while the remaining ones operate at higher voltages again. No major concerns here. Just improve the fan curve to avoid excessive spinning until temperatures rise. A better alternative would be using PBO with a negative voltage curve offset, keeping the voltage lower consistently.

TB problems often arise when a faulty temperature sensor fails to signal overheating. Regarding the question... 1) The 5600X draws only about 65W, producing minimal heat and needing little cooling. 2) It’s possible your fans are set to maximum above a certain threshold, which paradoxically lowers the actual temperature. 3) You probably don’t need fans running at over 50% capacity, and most units operate quietly below 70%. Direct motherboard control usually doesn’t support this fine-tuning. Compared to my air-cooled 5900X, it stays between 38°C–42°C when lightly loaded, rarely exceeding 70°C without a full 30-minute benchmark. Even at its peak, it reaches 87°C with PBO on, staying within AMD’s 90°C safe limit. Since fans only hit 70% speed until needed, the system runs very quietly otherwise. When gaming, audio overpowers fan noise. I use an iCUE Commander to manage six fans between 30%–85% across 30°C–70°C, adjusting via custom profiles. This works with a Scythe Mugen 5 in Turbo mode on the motherboard. The Commander can push fans up to 100% at 89°C or more, but never reaches that. My advice is to check your motherboard settings for quieter fan options, consider a budget fan controller, or explore an iCUE Commander for precise CPU fan tuning. Based on my experience, the 5900X handles temps comfortably between 38°C and 42°C, making the 5600X likely to stay quiet as well if properly configured.

Someone might need an ICUE commander because setting custom CPU curves is straightforward in BIOS without any extra expense, whereas options like MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte or Asrock don’t always offer this feature.

Many people doubted keeping my 5900X cool with air, but my experience contradicts that. After 90 days, this setup hasn’t reached 89°C or exceeded throttle limits—only hitting 89°C after a 30-minute Cinebench R23 test, never surpassing 70-72°C in real use. Didn't realize I mentioned that, OP—my safe limit is 90°C, yours is 95°C according to AMD. 70°C isn't a big deal and seems fine, just like others said.
