It seems the idle temperatures shouldn't be higher than when under load, which points to an unusual fan behavior. Gathering data like CPU fan speeds during idle versus load would help clarify the issue.

I believe the sensor could be faulty since the cooler remains cool even when I press the CPU. However, Origami Cactus mentioned this is typical.

I understand your point but from my experience the CPU stays cool during idle—around 40°C, and even on light tasks it’s usually 60°C at most, with brief spikes up to 70°C. Ryzen doesn’t really enter a low-power state at 1.4; it tends to stay in a moderate idle range of 0.2–1V or similar (though some monitoring apps struggle with Ryzen idle voltages). The benchmark tool shows only about 1% CPU usage, which makes sense. However, when I run Cinebench, temperatures quickly rise to 80°C and remain high, which is why keeping temps stable under load matters. Editing here: playing ROTTR at full load confirms what I see—temperatures climb with workload, not just during idle. This suggests a possible fan curve issue, even though the OP didn’t mention it.

However, Windows often runs background tasks, so a few cores remain active at 1.4v and can reach maximum speed to handle them swiftly before sleeping again. Once they wake up, other cores take over to manage subsequent threads. This behavior has been noticed with my 3700x processor. When the system reports "idle," it tends to temporarily increase temperature by briefly activating a core for a boost.
