Performance issues observed on 7950x3D and 4090 FE systems.
Hello once more, everyone! I’m back here because I was really assisted with my previous problem—a pump that stopped working. I thought you might be able to help me figure out what’s going on. Recently, I upgraded my system to a 4090 FE in November and a 7950x3D earlier this month. I’ve been using it as both an animator and a gamer, but I’ve noticed some odd and inconsistent behavior. It started after I reinstalled Fortnite for my PC, where performance dropped noticeably. I pushed the settings to their maximum (which Epic apparently set based on my setup), but still only managed 80-120 FPS at 1440p. The worst was the stuttering—every 2 to 5 seconds it would crash to 10-20 FPS before jumping back up. I thought it was just the new settings, so I lowered them further to try and improve. This got worse when the game kept running at 160 FPS but still stuttered. Looking into Task Manager showed my hardware wasn’t being used fully on both CPU and GPU. I assumed Epic was testing the latest update and just moved on. But then it affected Overwatch 2, which is important for my university’s esports team. It didn’t crash as much, but I was getting around 250-300 FPS at 1440p on medium settings—completely unsuitable for play. Time Spy Extreme gave me a score of about 9000, which is almost double what my hardware could handle. I went through every setting I could, checked drivers, Windows updates, power plans, BIOS, temperatures, and even tried overclocking. Everything seemed fine except for the odd results. I also ran some tests and still didn’t see a clear fix. I’m really stuck and don’t know what to do next. My computer works perfectly, but as someone who depends on it, I want to ensure I’m getting the best performance possible. If you have any ideas or more details, please let me know!

I thought about starting with the game settings, but they’re fine as they are. 64GB of RAM should handle those titles, even at 4K Ultra with 300FPS. The second GPU seems to be for performance upgrades—whether you need it or not depends on your setup. It’s the most logical choice for me.
What clock speeds are you experiencing during gameplay? Are they consistent or fluctuating?
Did you attempt DDU in safe mode? (It requires running in safe mode).
What memory speed are you using with Expo? (Consider skipping Expo for stability).
If you're using two 16GB kits (four sticks) from two boxes, Expo won't function well. You'll need to adjust timings manually.
I initially thought I lacked a second GPU, but it seems the integrated graphics chip on my Ryzen 7000 series might be handling tasks. It’s unclear if this affects performance or if there’s a method to turn it off.
I haven’t checked the GPU timings while playing; I’ll try to gather those numbers soon and share the results! It’s still a bit puzzling though—those clocks seemed steady during my Time Spy session but didn’t reflect well in the score. I’ll investigate further!
It seems your 4090 model is consistently operating at 2600MHz, which might not be typical. Usually, 4090s run near 3000MHz on the GPU. Please verify the settings or configuration.
Alright, begin with DDU. If that doesn't help, switch to stock auto speed on memory with expo turned off and all other settings auto. If it functions at the lower memory speed, adjust frequency, voltage, and primary timings manually—like 6000mhz, 1.4v, and 32-38-38-96. The rest can stay automatic.
