I had PBO enabled by default, but after switching to an MSI MMO, I opted to activate CPU Boost. I’m not very familiar with PBO or its settings, so I’m unsure if I should revert it. Any advice would be appreciated.
It could enhance thermals noticeably, depending on the setup. When I say "leave back open," I mean allowing airflow through the rear section—such as the area behind the cables or the back panel—to improve airflow and lift generation.
Running at idle temperatures between 50-60°C is quite intense, especially with the 5800X3D and X62 setup. NZXT's cooling solutions aren't top-tier, but they should still function adequately. My system has a smaller case and reaches 60°C during gaming and 87°C when doing core rendering/compiling. It should be simpler for your AIO to handle on the chip. For context, this is my typical setup (covers not shown in photo but present).
It looks like reinstalling NZXT CAM and setting the pump to 100% caused it to behave similarly to other users' 5800XS—delivering around 4.5 GHz across all cores while maintaining high temperatures. The idle temps stayed between 50–60°C. It seems the CPU briefly reached 4.5 GHz after consistently running at 4.3 GHz, though this wasn’t what I expected. Updated August 24, 2023 by Agar143
My cooler isn’t sufficient. I’d swap the CPU just for the better 5800x3D. But neither will run well with an x63.
It's all about the CPU performance. For a budget option, go with an Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 or 420 and pair it with an AIO. A better air cooler would be ideal. The Ak360 works fine. The Dark Rock Pro 4 performs well too.
