Performance declines with 4090
Performance declines with 4090
I removed and reinstalled my GPU drivers, then restarted the system and ran a test. (Below) I encountered this problem and decided to replace the 3060 TI to check if the same issues appeared. After fresh installing Windows and using both the 3060TI and the new model, the same problems persisted. I reinstalled the 4090 and reverted to Windows again. No changes were made to the Nvidia Control Panel. I also attempted to cap my FPS at 144Hz because that’s the screen refresh rate. Thanks for the tip about 3D Mark having a demo version! After completing this benchmark, it appears my CPU is operating around 95 degrees—maybe a better cooler would help? Also, it seems my GPU and CPU are running at different speeds, with unexpected spikes. If this test provides any insight, please let me know! Thanks everyone!
You don't need to reinstall Windows each time you switch GPUs. Simply download the newest driver from Nvidia's site and opt for a clean install during setup. This usually resolves most problems, based on my experience. If that doesn’t help, try using DDU. Either method is quicker than starting over with Windows. It looks like your CPU might be the issue—your temperatures are around 95°C, which is typical for the 7000 series but seems high for you. Make sure the cooler is properly installed: is it securely mounted? Does it have sufficient pressure? Is the fan working correctly? Check for any air pockets in the CPU block. It’s hard to tell just from a photo, but your GPU performance drops after the CPU spikes. The CPU also drops its frequency unexpectedly, which isn’t normal and likely contributes to the GPU workload. Right now, reviewing these graphs suggests the problem is on the CPU side. Have you updated your BIOS? Did you modify any settings in the BIOS? Have you run any CPU-only benchmarks such as Cinebench?
- Yes, I have tried reapplying thermal paste as well. - How would I check if my pump is working correctly? - Also how do I check for air trapped in the CPU block lol. - Yes, I have updated the bios. - No, all defaults - Here is a link to my Cinebench results. http://www.3dmark.com/cpu/1258883 Thanks for the help! I really appreciate the advice!

Sorry, I didn't fully understand the conversation until now. From your first image it seems like you're experiencing very low performance that doesn't match what's expected for Cyberpunk even on cheaper builds. A video of the benchmark would help clarify. But assuming a fresh Windows install, this isn't a GPU issue—it looks like your CPU is the problem. If you have a Ryzen processor, CDPR mentioned issues with 7000 series CPUs in both Cyberpunk and The Witcher, which can cause stuttering. If other benchmarks show similar problems, your CPU might be faulty and needs replacement.
GPU choices and gaming depend more on reliable testing than raw power. There’s often a risk with rare high-end PC builds that haven’t been thoroughly vetted by QA. I’m cautious of those who rush to the most expensive setups just for show. High-end hardware usually comes with many bugs, which is why it rarely gets extensive QA checks due to limited resources. I’ve tested large-scale projects like COD Warzone and seen how memory leaks or asset issues can affect performance. Sometimes FPS drops stem from poor compression in textures or shaders rather than hardware flaws. Always keep an open mind—what seems perfect in theory might be a hidden issue in practice.
I could possibly take my CPU back to the manufacturer. It's the only component I haven't replaced or checked yet.
