I’m considering switching to Windows 10 now that I’m ready for a fresh start. Since I’m still using Windows 7, I think it’s time to try something new, especially because a full reinstall seems necessary. I’ve heard the upgrade process was once required before a clean install, but it looks like that step might be optional now. I downloaded the latest installer and prepared a bootable USB, but I wanted to confirm if I should use it right away or wait for guidance.

With the November patch, you can perform a clean install without needing an upgrade. If asked for a product key, simply use your Windows 7 installation.

I would restart Windows 7 and then set up Windows 10. It seems this is the most straightforward approach based on my past experiences.

You're receiving conflicting information. Let me clarify. What would you like me to do?

The November update alters activation methods, and you can rely on me.

You can follow what Kherm suggested, but I’d suggest doing the same thing I mentioned, since I’ve had to set up Windows 10 multiple times. Also, if you have partitions, they’ll be deleted completely.

I believe you CAN clean install Windows 10, however if you want to take advantage of your free copy of it then you're going to have to install Windows 7 and register it before anything else happens. You're going to love Windows 10, it's great.

But listen up. Kherm's tips might just be the key.

They should have executed the update during launch, just like with all other upgrade versions.

You installed Windows 10 using the USB drive you made and inserted your existing Windows 7 key when prompted. It seems the process should now work without needing another upgrade. Based on Kherm’s update, it looks like this might be resolved, so I hope a fresh install of Windows 10 along with your registered Windows 7 key will function properly. It feels like the right time to give it a try and see if it runs smoother than before.
