PCIE Gen 4 riser issue detected Not functioning properly
Hi, I’ve been working on this problem for months without success. I purchased the Fractal Ridge with a Gen 4 riser, but it didn’t work properly—I had to switch to a Gen 3 version. When I reached out to Fractal, they sent me a new one, yet the issues persisted (no boot, crashes, BSOD, etc.). Around Easter, I bought another case, the DAN A4-H2O with a Gen 4 riser. Unfortunately, it still won’t boot. Connecting the GPU directly works perfectly, even when forcing Gen 4 in BIOS. My concern is whether I’m experiencing some unusual luck or if there’s another hidden problem making it incompatible. I’ve checked every other component and am confident the riser itself is the main issue. Thanks for any insights!

I understand my GPU isn’t optimized for Gen 4, but I need it to work with this riser. Have you encountered similar cases?
The DAN/Lian-li riser is identified by its specific labeling system.
All three layers are compatible with PCIe 4.0. The Z690 I AORUS ULTRA DDR4 (rev. 1.0) works well. The GIGABYTE Global F23 firmware update notes problems with the RTX 3060, but you haven’t updated yet. There’s no restriction on the 16x PCIe setup, which should support Gen5.
To answer your query accurately, the fractal riser lacks any labeling to show its origin
I've noticed this problem often after buying something new. Newegg labels these as PCIe 3.0 models, requiring a Fractal replacement. If the UEFI fix doesn't help, it might be due to compatibility issues with the 'PCIe 4.0' risers on your board and GPU. I remember those early days were pricey, so seeing companies push these feels questionable. I planned to just force the 3.0 setting, assuming it wouldn't auto-act, since my build uses a R5 7600 and possibly a 6700 XT. The end of my mITX journey included the ncase M1, which didn't use a riser at all—especially since I doubted those designs before the 3.0 vs 4.0 confusion started around 2014 with the Silverstone Raven model.
They said the update didn't help, so I'm going to push Gen 3 now and save my time and stress. As soon as this case ends, I'll change.
