I successfully started Windows from an external SSD. However, accessing the required files remains difficult since they’re stored in the hidden desktop folder. Attempts to take over the folders are failing with errors. Any suggestions for a solution?
you are basicaly booting from a different computer now according to windows.. so you have to take ownership of the files and directories under security you have to set yourself as administrator in the directory and all underdirectories and files. but.. if it's write protected as it says.. that can actually be because you can't write to the disk due to failure.. you can only read from it .. altho with no rights that's gonna be hard. sort of a catch22 that..
After some tests it looks like your 2TB 980 Pro has a problem, likely due to the Samsung firmware. They didn’t release any updates, and all affected drives seem to be completely failed—possibly because their existing files are corrupted. Sorry Samsung for not providing support.
Yeah, that read-only mode usually shows up on most SSDs when they start failing. It seems like a loss if you didn’t apply the firmware update beforehand. You might want to check warranty coverage as a last resort. Updated: The positive part is you can still read it—just need to copy the disk image to another drive, and possibly boot from there. Or at least adjust the access permissions.
Could you share a specific resource or guide you're using? That way, I can help you find the right steps.
Similar to Clonezilla, here are some options you can explore. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/fiv...ing-tools/ This might assist you in recovering your university work. Be sure to save it to the cloud moving forward. If you have someone with a cloning station, consider using theirs as well.
