I acquired this new PC around mid-December a couple of weeks ago, and recently it's been acting strangely. It freezes unexpectedly, devices stop responding (lights dim), the screen freezes, and sounds get stuck on the last byte. The only solution seems to be shutting it down by pressing the power button repeatedly. It appears to happen randomly, though I haven’t experienced it while gaming or running benchmarks, even with high system loads. Temperature readings look normal, so overheating isn’t the issue. After a forced shutdown, Event Viewer shows only one entry: “PC forced shutdown.” It’s unclear where to look in the logs, so I’m not sure what to check next. My build matches the specs listed online, and the components I used are from my previous machine—a 1TB HDD with about 30k hours logged. I unplugged it hoping that would fix things, but the problem continues. I’ve run diagnostics like memory tests, DISM, and SFC scans; everything looks fine. Disconnecting the HDD after 30k hours didn’t help either. The situation is becoming more frequent, making it hard to manage my data safely. Troubleshooting this inconsistency is really frustrating. Any suggestions or guidance would mean a lot to me right now. Thank you in advance! ^^ Please note, I’m not fully comfortable with English, so any clarification would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! It might actually be an issue with Windows itself. Could you try a clean installation? Other options include DDU, chkdisk, and memtest86. Your writing is clearer than mine, and it’s better than several native speakers here.

Thanks for your feedback and warm welcome! I understand the situation. The issue hasn’t changed since the clean Windows install, and I’ve tried everything except memtest86 due to lack of a flash drive and limited experience. It does seem a bit challenging at first, but I’ll give it another shot when I can. In the meantime, could you suggest other possibilities that might be behind this problem? From my own research, I’ve noticed the cause can vary from person to person, making it difficult to pinpoint exactly what’s happening.

The PC appears to be quite old, possibly using an outdated power supply unit. If it's brand new, it raises questions about why that PSU was chosen. Regarding the BIOS, the motherboard model is linked to certain lock-up issues that often stem from hardware problems rather than software conflicts. Are there any background programs running that might be causing these issues?

If you're unable to run Memtest86, try Testmem5 for a simpler check. Also, does HWiNFO64 display the temperature of the RAM sticks? Edited January 13 by leclod

The PC is quite new—it was assembled just last month. Regarding the BIOS, I think it might be an older version; I’ll update it once possible. For the RAM, I’m planning to look at testmem5 soon. And about HWiNFO64?

Checked AB settings and current AD. Verified ME firmware update to 16.1.38.2676 on the first bios page. Using MSI flashtool to refresh both BIOS and ME via the provided link. Updated January 13 by leclod.

Make sure to refresh the bios information. The version you're using is quite old and lacks the necessary micro-code improvements.

It's disappointing to deal with a company that hasn't lived up to expectations. A five-year-old PSU and outdated BIOS on a brand-new machine really don't reflect good business standards.

I'll reach out to you in a day once I have access to a flash drive. After updating my BIOS, I'll make sure it's ready. I don't have a backup drive at the moment and prefer not to rely on MSI Center, as they can be inconsistent for various needs.
