Hey there, I'm trying to add more drives to my NAS setup—actually combining two units into one. But the motherboard only has four SATA ports. I bought a PCIe SATA card from Amazon, but when I try to install it, the board won't power up and the lights flicker briefly before shutting off. I thought maybe the controller was faulty, but it works fine on other boards. I also tried resetting the CMOS, but nothing changes. Here are the links I checked: one that looks good, another that works, and a third that’s older but functional. I’m still trying to figure this out.

additional info: using a different PCIe card (ethernet) in the PCIe slot also functions well.

Make sure the mainboard matches the compatibility list. Consider updating the BIOS if needed, and then clear the CMOS.

In the meantime, I connected the J1900 PC's PSU, but it didn<|pad|> to make no difference. It seems the problem is likely with the motherboard.

Observed the J1900 model has more recent BIOS updates compared to the older boards. Based on that, it seems the J4205 model includes a BIOS from 2018, suggesting it is up to date.

I made the updates to the BIOS versions from 1.4 to 1.7 and then to 1.8, but nothing changed. Now I have an updated BIOS, which seems to be causing some issues. The system starts with a very quiet click from the PSU when fans spin, which might be a problem for the motherboard.

they frequently refreshed the BIOS details for the bay trail CPUs due to sleep state problems, likely on Linux platforms. a detailed discussion exists in the kernel bug tracker about this issue...
