I’m just getting started with PC building and upgrading. I swapped my CPU from a Ryzen 3 2200G to a Ryzen 7 3700X and also replaced the motherboard to fit retention brackets. Since it was a prebuilt unit, I ordered it separately. My board is an Asrock A-320M HDV. Pressing the button doesn’t seem to work—lights are on the GPU and CPU cooler but not mine. I’m unsure if it should stay off while I’m working. I’ve been stuck for a while and need some help!
A320 boards aren't compatible with the latest Ryzen chips. You'll need a different motherboard like B450, X470, B550 or X570.
Not accurate. I notice ASRock has included Matisse support in their OP motherboards via BIOS versions P5.90 and later. From your photo, it appears your A320 board came with the P2.30 BIOS (you can see the label on the mid-left). As mentioned, you'll need a BIOS that supports Matisse (version P5.90 or above). If your system already uses a compatible BIOS, verify that the case switch jumper cables are properly connected. You might attempt to bypass them by disconnecting the jumpers and directly shorting the power switch jumpers with a screwdriver. Are the fans operating? Using a metal screwdriver, touching these two jumpers to connect them should power the machine: These jumpers are positioned on your board.
I’ve reinstalled the old CPU, but it still won’t boot. It seems the BIOS might not be the only problem, and the fans aren’t spinning for either CPU. Before purchasing this one, I checked the specs and confirmed it supports the 3700x.
Are you relying on the ready-made PSU? Do you understand its specifications? Honestly, I’m confused. It’s clearly visible in the photo. Please switch to a different PSU. If you still can’t proceed, send back the board.
For the jumpers there’s nothing connected. I searched online and found a slightly tilted screw, so I’m replacing the motherboard again now. I just upgraded the PSU a few days back, so it’s not the original one. I’ll reconnect the prebuilt unit and give it another try.
If the power button jumpers aren't linked to the case's power switch, that's why the machine doesn't turn on when you flip the switch. You can manually power it by shorting the jumpers with a screwdriver, as explained in post 3. Alternatively, refer to the wiring guide for the "system panel header" mentioned in that post.
