PC fails to power on completely, with no fans or lights except for a single motherboard indicator.
I recently began assembling a PC and couldn't get it to power on except for the motherboard's ROG logo. I initially used a Gigabyte X570-Aorus Elite, which wouldn't turn on until we reset the CMOS. After that, I powered off the system and installed new fans and an AIO. When I tried to boot again, nothing appeared at all—no lights or fans. I went through many fixes: updating the BIOS, using just one RAM stick, switching to a different power supply that worked. I returned the motherboard and got a new one from Micro Center. Back home, I used this board but only saw the motherboard indicator and nothing else. I also attempted a BIOS flash, RAM tweaks, and GPU removal, but nothing resolved the issue. I’m starting to suspect either a faulty motherboard or a defective CPU (though I checked for broken pins). Here’s the current setup: Ryzen 5 5600 (new), ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (open box from Micro Center), 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 (open box from Micro Center), Radeon RX 6600XT (open box from Micro Center), EVGA 280mm AIO (new), and a 750W semi-modular PSU (open box from Micro Center). I’ve gone through all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the forum post.
I verified it with a voltmeter and the paperclip bridge technique, plus I connected a Corsair 750W power supply that I’m certain functions correctly on this machine.
If the system doesn't power on with that Corsair adapter, consider a BIOS update or issues with the board, CPU, or GPU. First verify the front panel I/O header connections. It's a common oversight. If confirmed, test the new GPU and CPU on another board to identify the problem. Updated July 7, 2022 by An0maly_76
I completed the first one using just the CPU without RAM or GPU. Now I’m planning to try it without a CPU next.
Of course, which motherboard light are you talking about? Typically there are several diagnostic indicators, such as CPU, RAM, VGA, and boot status, but this model might vary from what I'm familiar with.
