I looked into it and decided to remove it. My laptop isn’t in the supported list, so I can just uninstall it since I won’t need it anymore. EDIT: I can’t delete it because reinstalling gnome-software also installs fwupd anyway. Any chance there’s a way to turn it off so the error disappears?

You might be able to prevent the alert, by entering "fwupd" as the identifier.

I recall a comparable problem with fedora on my laptop, using similar hardware to yours. That’s why I avoided it on that machine (plus my Wi-Fi card refused to cooperate—Broadcom was to blame!). Firmware issues tend to be more challenging to resolve than other problems, and I’m sure even tougher than kernel bugs because the kernel lets you roll back if your distribution offers that option.

This problem connects to the issue at https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/issues/1141. Removing the specified file resolved the issue.
