Overclocking I7-7700k with cooling solutions
Overclocking I7-7700k with cooling solutions
I'm expecting an I7-7700k and searching for a suitable cooler to handle overclocking. On Newegg.com the top picks mentioned were Cooler Master Hyper 212, which mostly supports fx or i5 chips. Will this cooler be compatible with my model? Or should I consider another option?
Supershadow515 describes delidding as a final resort, to be considered only when temperatures remain unmanageable after proper cooling methods fail. Not every 7700k component will face thermal issues. Take your time and compare premium air cooling with AIO options. If watercooling becomes your choice, consider Swiftech or an EK kit.
A combination of 212 and 7700K often leads to dissatisfaction.

I'm getting an I7-7700k soon and I'm looking for a good cooler to support overclocking. Looking on Newegg.com the best I could find is the Cooler Master Hyper 212. All of the reviews mentioned fx or i5 processors. Will this cooler work for me? Or is there another one that I should get?
Edit: Processor uses LGA 1151 socket.
I have this CPU and have an AIO (watercooling) Corsair H100i V2 and I have quite high temps still. I'd suggest a high end cooler for the 7700K
Intel messed up the fabrication of it and the internal thermal paste is very bad, I got mine "delid" and gained 25°C
so that's an option
You could do it yourself very carefully (you need to actually open the CPU) or ask a professional.
I haven't used water cooling before. Is setting it up simple? You can find more details here: https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16811353064
I'm planning to get an I7-7700k and need a reliable cooler for overclocking. On Newegg.com I found the Cooler Master Hyper 212, but all reviews mentioned it works with FX or i5 chips. Will this cooler suit my build? Or should I consider something else?
Edit: The processor uses LGA 1151 socket.
I already have this CPU and a Corsair H100i V2 AIO (watercooling). Despite high temperatures, I'm still experiencing them. I think a top-tier cooler would be beneficial for lowering the temps.
Opening up the CPU yourself is possible but requires careful handling, or you could consult a professional. I’m unsure if I can open it, and even then, a premium cooler might make a big difference.

I’ve heard Intel might have had issues with this chip, and the thermal paste is poor—my unit ended up being "delid" with a 25°C increase. That’s a valid concern.
You could try assembling it yourself carefully (requires opening the CPU) or consult a pro. I’m unsure if I can open the CPU myself. Either way, a high-end cooler would likely help lower those temps.
The temperatures for my i7 7700K are quite high—around 70°C in games—and with the "delid" effect from my CPU, I’m seeing 45-50°C now.
