Hello tech enthusiasts, I’m about to attempt overclocking my i5 4690k. The challenge is figuring out which benchmarks to use and where to find them. My goal is to reach 4.4 GHz, and if that succeeds I’ll aim for 4.6.

What should I run for each benchmark? What are the safe temperatures?
Thank you in advance!
(Specs)
i5 4690k
AsRock Z97X Fatal1ty Killer
EVGA GTX 970
Asetek 570lx (240mm rad)
1 x 8 1866 G.Skill Ripjaws

Hi, I have the same CPU and personally use Prime95 v26.6 (v26.6 is important) or Aida64 for stress testing my overclocks. I usually run them for about an hour, but I suggest at least a couple of hours to guarantee stability (some people do it overnight, but I prefer not to). Use a safe static voltage since auto voltage might cause issues. During benchmarks, aim for temperatures below 80-85°C so that when you play games you should stay around 70°C, which is a comfortable temperature.

Sure, I can help with that. What's the typical average performance for an i5 4690K? And do you need a link to those benchmark results? Just let me know.

Nikko G :
Alright I'll try that, whats the average OC for a i5 4690k would you say? Also could I get a link to those benchmarks? Sorry if it seems lazy just don't wanna download some cracked file.
😛
4.5-4.6Ghz seems to be a common number, I can get 4.5Ghz at 1.2v and 4.6Ghz at about 1.22v but all chips are different.
Here is the link to the Prime95 forum with a list of downloads:

Aida64:

The extreme version is what I use, although it is only a 30 day trial.

Okay thanks a lot, I'll just go ahead and try 4.4 for an hour and then 4.6 for 6-8. If 4.6 is unstable then i'll try 4.4 for 6-8 hours. Thanks for the help!

Also, what software should I consider for monitoring temperatures? I'm currently using hwmonitor.

Also what monitoring software should I use for temperatures? I'm currently using hwmonitor, but I'm trying Core Temp. HWMonitor should work just fine, good luck!

Sergeant_Sneaky is asking Nikko G for software recommendations to monitor temperatures. They mention using Core Temp and HWMonitor, and are seeking confirmation on whether a max frequency of 4.5 GHz on a 1.32 core processor is safe.

keep going really high!
by the way, what's more interesting? and what temperature are you checking on the CPU?
and regarding readings... i notice hwmonitor is off for some measurements, so i'm just using the CPU temperature and core temp instead.
