I owned the same machine my uncle handed me after my Windows Vista fell victim to a virus. Initially it ran Windows XP, but it was painfully slow. I moved down to Windows 95, which improved things somewhat, though still not ideal. You might want to give TinyCore Linux a shot—it's lightweight at just 11MB. That’s quite impressive!

I’d consider it for Bitcoin cold storage. For top-notch resource efficiency, explore unikernels. Don’t think it’ll be simple—expect high performance and strong security. That’s another topic altogether. Edit: thumbs up @GadgetDX, I almost missed TinyCore. Thanks for the reminder!

I explored the system last night while the drive was connected to check for useful files to save. It seems it previously ran Windows 95, so I believe I’m on the right track. Except for that, I reformatted it and installed Puppy Linux—it functioned just okay. It didn’t perform well but it worked at all. I think I should clean out the chassis and see where that leads. Thanks for the advice. If Puppy Linux doesn’t work, I’ll try the other distros suggested.

It could work well if I find an operating system that runs smoothly on it. Then I could use it for that purpose and possibly run a more affordable build or set up a low-cost client for my sibling to explore.
