OS suggestions for old computer

I've discovered a vintage Dell machine with limited specs—max 128MB RAM, a solid-core CPU, and a 1GB hard drive. It runs an older Pentium processor at 166MHz. You currently have 48MB of memory and a replaceable or upgradable 1GB drive. Looking for practical ways to use it without letting it end up in a landfill. Any ideas on suitable operating systems?

There was a version of Windows from the late '90s. I mostly saw versions 95 and 98 during my childhood. I owned a genuine 98SE and really enjoyed that operating system.
