Follow the recommended sequence: run Windows Update first, then install the latest driver for your motherboard, next the chipset drivers, and finally the video card drivers. Make sure to check each step after completing the previous one.

Previously I saved the drivers onto a USB stick, now I'm curious about the correct loading sequence.

It doesn't matter much. Typically I run the installer, let Windows handle updates, then add the GPU driver and any missing components. On AMD systems, you might also need to install the chipset.

It's long past the Windows 98 days. Prioritize what you need now—Windows 10 and 11 often update drivers automatically without you even realizing it. In the 95 and 98 eras, you had to tread carefully; mixing devices like sound cards and video cards could create major issues. Today? It's smooth, and this situation hasn't changed since XP.

It doesn't really matter. It's been fine since XP. With Windows 7, you could have multiple installers working together, and wait for updates to ask for a required restart.
