Optimal graphics configurations for Witcher 3.
Optimal graphics configurations for Witcher 3.
So I have Witcher 3 installed.
My laptop is a GTX 1060 (Alienware 17) with an i7 8750h.
I have 16GB of RAM, a 120Hz 1440p monitor with Tobii Eye tracking.
Some friends suggest playing it at higher resolution—maybe 60fps—and even at 120Hz if needed, since I have an external monitor that supports it. Others recommend lower resolution but higher frame rates, though I was told the game can’t cap frames at 120.
How should I proceed?
If you own the game and your system supports it, you can simply switch between modes and pick the one that suits you better. Running it at different resolutions should let you achieve around 40-50 fps in Witcher 3 1440p with maximum settings, while changing to "high" will push you closer to 60fps. The game offers impressive visuals, and I’d prefer 60fps with a higher resolution over 120fps at lower one. Keep in mind that a 1060 won’t reach 120fps in Witcher 3 1080p on maximum settings.
Witcher 3 isn't exactly a "twitch game," so you won't gain much from 120fps. There could be a smoother frame transition, but since it's mainly a slow-paced RPG, eye-catching visuals are more attractive. Regardless, you own the game, and it's easy to try both versions to find what suits you best.
You should have shared the thread in a different way:
I think it would be better to ask what people prefer.
Thank you for your responses.
You shouldn't experience tearing at 60 FPS on a 120Hz monitor. For graphics, a GTX 1060 should handle Witcher 3 well and maintain around 60 FPS on average.

In short, a mobile GTX 1060 fits the bill too.
I’d go for the Supreme to Extreme mod and The Witcher 3 HD Rework mod. These let you tweak settings beyond the game’s limits.
Also, consider installing a custom ReShade for Witcher.
Lastly, adjusting your DX LoD bias to -0.5 or -1.0 via Nvidia Inspector can enhance texture clarity without hurting performance—just ensure Anti Aliasing Supersampling is set to Replay_All.
Presets can be a bit silly. Just set it to high (or whatever is below ultra) and then adjust the settings to see which ones improve the visuals without hurting FPS, and which ones are actually pointless and ruin performance.
I favor 1440p at 90-110 fps. Adjust the graphic settings to allow this. Follow this guide to reach the highest fps while maintaining optimal visual quality.
