To set up a new library, you can follow the standard steps for Lightroom. If you're looking to make it free, ensure you're using the official Lightroom software without any third-party add-ons or paid extensions.

There are numerous tutorials available online about this process. Usually, clicking on an image provides a choice for a fresh library. Lightroom does come with a cost.

Turning it off stops automatic backups when opening files, though you can still do it manually. ICLoud works well for more than just photos. I’ve disabled ICloud Photos on my iPhone because keeping photos on the phone isn’t ideal, but I can still upload them to ICLoud for backup if needed.

I powered it off and now none of the uploaded photos appear on my Mac. If I can somehow restore it, I’ll end up with around 3,000 copies.

Opening the photos app, settings, iCloud, and choosing to re-select the iCloud photo library doesn’t work. If your pictures are lost, they won’t be copied since they’re stored exclusively in iCloud, not on your Mac.

I originally saved it directly to my Mac, but I can’t because it would use up my cloud space. I need to remove duplicates to regain storage. If I try to pick it again, the interface shows a prompt to purchase additional storage.

The images remain stored in iCloud? Double-check deleting the downloaded files and then re-enabling it.
