When accessing certain files on my laptop, I encounter this issue shown in the screenshot. It happens only with specific files, including some newly downloaded ones. Some Windows applications become unavailable. I've run multiple scans of the hard drives, but everything looks fine. What's happening?

It seems your Windows is experiencing some issues. A reinstallation would be the simplest solution.

@NelizMastr , is there a way of backing up ALL of my files in one place without painstakingly copying every file separately? I may have just reintalled using the wrong process. I was using a reinstall that saved all the files.

If your operating system is severely damaged, I recommend performing a clean installation via a new setup media from Microsoft's website. Backing up everything isn't straightforward, which is why I store my files in user folders. Simply transfer the entire user folder if you follow the same process. Storing documents across various locations and on the C drive in random directories will require manual work.

Also consider executing the command prompt with administrative privileges and entering SFC /scannow. It might or might not resolve the issue.

You attempted the action, but the system couldn't locate the file. You have access to the command prompt, though not the administrative version.

This appears to be malicious software designed to hide itself. It often removes essential files like regedit.exe and system tools to make removal difficult.

Just checked this machine again since I got it. I remember scanning it before... well, you know. Now it's being scanned once more.

AVG antivirus scanned but found nothing; malware wasn’t detected. No viruses present, but I might need to back up my data and reinstall Windows. Appreciate the support!
