Don’t assume a switch is ready. You’ll probably require a router with an integrated switch. Modem -----> Router ------> PC1 \---------> PC2

He already possesses a router, so an additional one isn't required.

You're wondering if using a switch can help manage your Ethernet connection. It's possible, but ensure the switch supports the speed and type of cable you're using. Also, check if your router or modem is compatible with switching multiple devices.

He referred to it as a router, yet many of these devices only have a single port.

Check if the modem features one or four ports and identify its brand. If it’s a standalone modem with a single port, you’ll require a router; otherwise, a switch should suffice.

He claims he doesn't need to run two cables since the existing setup was sufficient for a single cable. Therefore, a switch seems ideal for his needs.

Your modem has four additional ports, so you don’t need to run new cables.
