I don't see the problem. I switch between hardrives on my computers fairly often with the only issues being drivers everytime I swap. That is hardware though not via USB/thunderbolt. I'd double check its possible to "boot" via sata over USB and if you can the there's really no reason it shouldn't work right? Apart from driver problems switching between the two. the other problem is if either of the computers require some kind of OEM boot partition that could be a issue Eg. My desktop install on my ssd won't boot on my Asus laptop and vice versus but the desktop OS will work on my other deaktop

I don’t need a desktop setup, but I also prefer not to. I’m used to laptops and will be traveling often with VR gear, so a desktop isn’t ideal for me.

Choose a large-capacity USB or SD card (256GB or 512GB). Set up Windows on the device and always start from there. This method treats the drive as an external storage solution while keeping costs low.

I've used a 128GB USB on my keychain before. I often say my computer is my personality since I see it as a collection of experiences, not just a body. Plus, I can connect to anyone's hardware and take their data.

Remember that Windows is tied to your device. Moving files between computers isn't feasible without Windows 2Go. It's safer to switch to a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu. Ideally, just install on an external drive so you can start from either machine.

In fact, you can enable Windows features linked to your Microsoft account to bypass activation issues.

Yes, the Akitio Thunder3 arrived since it runs quickly and supports both devices. It also lets you sync files between computers. Another point to consider is whether you can start from an external drive and transfer the OS to your local machine for normal operation.

Windows activation tied to your Microsoft account restricts usage across different devices. It simplifies moving the license between machines. When the activation servers detect multiple active machines, they secure the license.
