Sure, I can help with that. For the numbers, sticking with 5800x or 5700x wouldn’t require overclocking, and since 5800x3d was already on my list, it shouldn’t be an issue either. I’d probably opt for a dual tower cooler or an AIO. For fans, look for models that provide strong airflow and direct cooling to the VRMs.
way too vague, a lot of B550 boards are still shit for 5800X3D. And besides, at that point it no longer make sense, because if you have to replace the platform anyway, id just consider jumping to 13600K with the RAM that OP already have, or waiting for 7800X3D and hop to DDR5.
Improving the board doesn't matter much if you're using an AM4 motherboard. Consider switching to a B660/z690 with 13600k instead of sticking with a 5800X3D, which will mainly benefit gaming performance and power use. Even then, it won't be significantly better in most games, but you can adjust the intel for better efficiency if needed.
I understand. I’ll document everything as I learn more from you. So far, I’m seeing a path where I go 5700x unmodified, which is fine except for a noticeable upgrade over the original. Going to 5800x would technically boost performance a bit more, but it’s not significant and it gets hotter while using more power—so it doesn’t work. The alternative at 5800x3d seems like the strongest option besides 5700x, but only if I manage to cool the VRMs properly while keeping the same board layout. My current plan is to find a better MOBO that fits the 5800x3d setup and includes improved VRMs and cooling.
Yeah and there's a reason on why id advice against it, same with @Somerandomtechyboi . It just doesnt make sense to invest more when, as much as it performs stellarly now, its fundamentally an EOL platform.
