Older titles aren't working after the Windows 10 Creators Update.
Hey, I saw the same issue with some older titles after the Windows 10 update. They didn’t work properly anymore, even though they were fine on standard Windows 10. Empire Earth 2001 is one such game that freezes or crashes during loading. It’s frustrating since it’s a game you really care about. Do you think there’s anything you can try to get it running again? Thanks for reaching out, Tiwaz!
Interesting, did you switch from an older Windows version like Win10 or Win7/8? If you're coming from a previous Windows 10 installation, please disregard this advice. For systems running Windows 7.8, make sure all required drivers are installed—visit the MOBO support page for details. Also, go to Control Panel → Programs and Features → Toggle Windows features on or off, then check that the .NET Framework is listed and selected. Do not click anything, just observe and let me know.
Framework 3.5 is present, yet the application continues to fail.
In addition to activating .NET Framework 3.5, also turn on DirectPlay. Both options are set from the same location: To support older games, open Programs and Features, switch Windows features to on or off, then select .NET Framework 3.5 and click OK. For legacy game compatibility, go to Programs and Features again, enable Windows features, choose Legacy Components, check DirectPlay, and confirm.
