I recently purchased Windows 8.1 for my new PC build and I’m sure I mistakenly bought the update—it’s only 4.9GB. Check it out here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Window...indows+8.1 I’m hoping I got the right version.

It looks like the installation files or ISO are just 4.9 GB, which is typical. Even the W7 ISO usually fits within about 4 GB.

Windows doesn't release updates like DLCs for EA or Ubisoft; you own the original version.

It seems the file size is actually 4.9GB, not 20GB. You might have confused the numbers.

Only 4.9GB is a big amount for a Windows install! The complete version is definitely available. The download size doesn’t decide whether it’s an upgrade or full—both product keys are accepted. You’ll just notice if it won’t activate. I think there aren’t any 'Upgrade' versions for 8.1, just for 8. You should be okay.

Compression. The install package is significantly reduced in size, requiring roughly 20GB after extraction and feature installation.

You purchased the Windows 8.1 version, not the professional one. If you opted for the Professional, it's called "Windows 8.1 Pro Full Edition."

Understood. It uses 20GB when not compressed, so you won’t have to download anything else.
