Yeah, maybe I can get that 6700k for a 1440x900 gaming rig. Any motherboards you suggest for overclocking would be helpful since I’m not really familiar with the MoBo stuff. Some things don’t cost more than 70-90 $. There aren’t any good options for overclocking at around $90. You’re probably thinking about $120. What’s your maximum budget for all the components you need? I can build something that works much better than what we’re doing now.

~800 for the entire setup, which covers a case and accessories like coolers. I definitely want the RX 480. The 8GB version is about 220$.

I switched to the i5-6600k because i was going over budget. HOWEVER, if your not doing any video editing, stream, or extremely heavy multitasking, a overclocked 6600K is still lightning fast. All the 6700K is is a core i5 with hyperthreading and some extra cache, that's it.
The motherboard is rock solid, excellent for overclocking.
I added an SSD because trust me you'll want it.
Also, I didn't add a computer case since I didn't see one in your other parts list. Did you need one? What do you like if so?

Can we replace the Vengeance with a 2x8? I’m okay paying about 100 more, as long as it works. I’m unlikely to stream, definitely not. Still, I want the ability to record videos, and I think it would help. For the SSD, I don’t really need it—I know they’re much faster, but I’m fine with slower load times as long as the game runs smoothly at 50-60 FPS on high graphics like The Witcher 3 and similar titles with 1440x900 resolution.

What type of motherboard do you like best? A gaming-focused one, a custom overclocking board, or a standard motherboard?

The sole purpose of overclocking will be for gaming, allowing a specific game to operate more smoothly despite issues. If needed, consider combining Gaming with overclocking.

If you manage to get the i7-6700K and the Asus Extreme together, you'll have it. It's one of the strongest motherboards available.
If that's not possible, opt for the Asus HERO. Another excellent board built for gaming and overclocking.

I will take the Hero as the Extreme, which is quite costly even with the promotion.
