OCing 860k help needed
Hello everyone, a month ago I decided to purchase an 860k athlon and now I want to overclock it, but I've never done that before. I need some advice. First, let me share the motherboard and processor details. The motherboard is an Asrock Fm2a68m-dg 3+, and my PSU is a deepcool de580. For the processor, I'm using the stock cooler and have been experiencing temperature issues, so I'm planning to buy a new one. I'm unsure which cooler to choose; many people recommend the 212 evo, but I don't know. My main questions are: what cooler would you recommend and how much overclocking can I achieve with my processor once the RX 480 is available?
If you manage to get the i7-6700K and the Asus Extreme together, you'll have it. It's one of the strongest motherboards available.
If that's not possible, opt for the Asus HERO. Another excellent board built for gaming and overclocking.
Unfortunately that's an A68 chipset motherboard, overclocking is LOCKED out on a non-X chipset motherboard. You'll need to buy an A88X chipset motherboard to get overclocking capability.
2nd, the RX 480 is going to be bottlenecked by that 860K, your better off waiting for the RX 470 coming out soon.

Are you certain this motherboard won’t let you overclock?
Well, I checked a bit and it’s technically possible, but I wouldn’t advise it. The issue is the board isn’t designed for overclocking, and you risk damaging some VRMs if you’re not careful.
I chose this setup: AMD FX-9370 / ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0, AM3+/AM3 (up to 140W), AMD 970 / DeepCool DE580, 580W, 120mm / WD 1 TB any HDD / Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO / two x8 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Kingston HyperX Fury (HX316C10F/8) / RX 480. It should be ready in a few days. Any advice on this configuration? I’m still curious about switching to an i7 6700k.
Man, sorry to say this but that's one of the poorest builds available right now. The AMD FX-9370 is four years old, while an Intel core i7 6700k or 4790K would outperform it significantly. If you really need AMD, wait until 2017 when Zen was released. For now, your top choice is to get a core i7 6700k—it's the best for gaming and overclocking.
It seems you're looking for alternative processors around $350 that are worth considering.
I should obtain that information instead. I just realized it's three years old when I checked it. Are there any other processors around 350 dollars worth I should look into?
No, at the moment. The only other CPU in that range would be the i7-6800k, but that's a high-end model meaning you'd need to spend double the cost for a motherboard and RAM compared to the 6700k. Also, that CPU is way too much for what you need.
