the startup problem doesn’t seem tied to the ssd location. the gpu lanes don’t influence the lanes used by m.2 drives, meaning one card will operate at pcie gen 2 speeds from the chipset, while another will run at pcie gen 3 lanes from the CPU. neither will impact the gpu.

Currently, I'm utilizing the GPU without any bandwidth splitting in the second slot.

When both M2s are active, you can't utilize any of the three PCIe ports.

The only way to achieve 16 lanes is by placing it in slot 1. Inserting it into slots 16_2 or 16_3 results in a consistent 8x output. Moreover, when using slot 16_3 and the M2_2 is active, it reduces to 4 lanes.

It's still a bit confused, but if I connect my GPU to the first port, there shouldn't be any problems with using two NVMe slots.

The GPU is only handling the slot, yes, but the operating system isn't utilizing the X1s. Switching to the M.2 drive won't change that.

It should function properly with the GPU in the top slot. Likely another problem exists with the board.

It's odd I started with the GPU on the first slot using two existing NVMe drives. Occasionally it works, other times it fails.

Checking if you're starting from M2_1 or M2_2? In this setup, I'd likely confirm M2_1 is the one with the bootable system.
