This game hasn't been in development for as long as any other title. Do you think most projects are only finished after they're announced and released? If it were a typical release, we'd probably find out it wasn't even made until the final testing phase. Usually, games that aren't just new skins take around five years to finish, let alone being the first major crowdfunding effort.
I'm most drawn to Squadron 42 in Star Citizen. The development time isn't too long for a big AAA title—about three and a half years. I also prefer experiences that go beyond the usual gaming norms, aiming for something truly exceptional.
It was unavoidable that running a private server for an entire universe would eventually collapse. Even before significant scope expansion, it was clear. As soon as they began discussing economic models and automatically generated missions tied to supply and demand, it became evident they were planning to exceed the server capacity to the point where only a fraction of what needs to run could be supported on dedicated machines. Modders might manage adding mods or even operating a private server, but it wouldn’t cover the whole universe.
I truly believe the situation with SC won’t succeed. It seems impossible for them to integrate all the functionalities before the system becomes obsolete.
