Other players are eager for this match just to enjoy solo gameplay and the freedom to create and manage their own private servers with custom rules. For a while, I focused only on the simulation mode, but now I’m questioning whether the real value lies beyond that. I’ve had access to the game long before it became playable, yet I’m uncertain if I still value the offline, long-term gaming experience. P.S. This is my username for SC https://robertsspaceindustries.com/citizens/LedHead

Star Citizen centers around its multiplayer experience, designed for MMO-style gameplay where private sessions are improbable. A social system has been introduced for group play, though private modes are expected to be limited. Rumors suggest Single Player (Squadron 42) might launch new content this year, which would support the focus on solo experiences. Currently, development efforts are heavily concentrated on single-player features, causing delays in online updates and asset production.

I can confidently confirm you're mistaken, friend. It's clear private servers will actually function, and mod support is planned there from the start. Chris and his team made it public early on before any playable alpha existed, and this was covered in one of their YouTube Q&A posts. You can find that reference here: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.co...fline-game. I'm happy the SP is still in development, especially since I focus mainly on private content. I wouldn't invest much time in the persistent worlds run by the publisher. Everyone has different goals for the game, but for me, a fresh take on Freelancer was what I wanted. Chris mentioned during fundraising that SC is strongly shaped by Freelancer and its fan community, including the Wing Commander series. So when he announced a new project with big concepts in a fresh universe while honoring the original fanbase, I jumped in with a modest $200 purchase of two early LTI copies. What I'm asking here is how many others share this interest and if they're willing to share their thoughts. P.S., maybe I should trim my first message and rephrase it for better clarity.

I neglected to mention that funding target, I thought it would follow the same pattern as other MMOs where you play openly online—that was a misconception. It's great to have my perspective challenged on this.

The private servers might be removed because they’re uncertain about whether home servers can handle the workload. It seems more probable that the universe will be significantly smaller on private servers or you’ll need to hire one from CIG. The same applies to SQ42—according to Chris, the group is no longer available. Whether it gets integrated after release remains unclear, but it appears there could be new group missions post-release.

Everything looks fine. It's not like I was expecting much, given the situation. I don't mind private servers being smaller or having fewer rental options. What matters is being able to travel with friends. Disappointing that they're cutting content, but I'd only accept it if it benefited the developers and improved the story. Someone could probably modify Freelancer into this game, after all.

Unless specified otherwise, I think any changes are possible. Custom servers and mods may not disappear completely, but they could appear later in the game.

The original setup was abandoned for something better, which makes sense. I’m fine with that. Private servers are a good idea, even if the universe is tiny—it’s still big enough to support a tether system like in ARK. It would mean friends far away can’t join easily, but it wouldn’t lose its fun value. Someone will probably find a way to bring everything together through a mod, and people have already managed to get PTU offline.

I'll need to look into this. It seems many debug options remain available in the client, even though I managed to unlock all ships for offline testing to try out the simulation. There was some discussion about whether this violated the EULA until Chris clarified that he didn't mind because only what you have in a live scenario counts. For users wanting real content, they need to be online, and once they reconnect, their progress resets. I noticed others creating their own AI and planets to fly around, but that was when I stopped following builds and uninstalled the game until it had proper content—then new features were added progressively, like buying ships and interacting.
