Thanks to both of you, it isn’t that severe compared to reaching 97°C on my laptop.

Thermal paste seals the gaps. It works similarly to how it fills minuscule cracks in the IHS and coldplate. That pressure is key, and extra heat just aids the process. But if you discover a method to chill a CPU using dark matter—or even better, if you locate dark matter—let me know.

I’ll rephrase it for you. The tiny cracks are hard to spot without a magnifying glass, and a 1/8th inch hole isn’t the same as a small air pocket. This situation might cause a hot spot to start melting the paste at that opening. I’ve noticed this before on several occasions. Usually, I get this kind of hardware because I often purchase used items. Surprisingly, it tends to happen after prolonged use rather than just a few days.

It should work properly when placed on the CPU because of the IHS. However, I’d still recommend using some paste with your next order and reapplying it, as there’s no guarantee the pre-applied paste has been stored properly for long.

You should tighten it until it feels secure, repeating the process until it’s snug.

It should work for about a week. You can go ahead and place the order for the lighting node pro.

Could you please capture an image of the removed component? It seems we haven't specified the exact AIO model yet, but typically you secure it until the threads stop and springs adjust the pressure.
