Currently, high-definition performance for AAA games remains out of reach unless you significantly cut costs or compromise quality options.

It's hard to understand why it isn't that way.

Honestly, I haven’t experimented with 1440p gaming yet, but using a 180p screen and a 4K TV connected to an HTPC has made me believe 1080p is ideal for gaming. I recommend sticking to 1080p but consider a high refresh rate monitor later on.

Honestly, a rig equipped with an RX480 8GB or a 1060 6GB can handle 1440p at high frame rates and ultra smooth performance.

1440p at 27 inches strikes the ideal balance. Under it, 1080p works just as well. Going to 4k offers high resolution but comes with significant drops in frame rate unless you have two powerful GPUs running smoothly.

I've been facing this same issue for the past couple of years, lol. I'm planning to upgrade my GPU to a GTX 1080 Ti and thought about improving my monitor to a 1440p with G-SYNC at 144Hz. I'm keeping my current 1080p 120Hz 3D monitor. The reason is mainly about FPS in games. I visited a friend's place today, and he had a 1440p 144Hz monitor with a Pascal Titan X. He played games like Witcher 3 and Mafia 2 while watching Watch Dogs 2. He was struggling to reach around 100fps at times, often dropping below 60fps. After switching his monitor from "he has 2" to a 1080p one, he still managed to hit near over 100fps in those titles. Only Mafia 2 and Watch Dogs 2 saw their performance drop significantly. Yes, the visuals are sharper in 1440p, and G-SYNC works well. However, based on my experience, the jump in resolution from 1080p to 1440p doesn't justify the £600 price tag in my country. Also, maintaining high FPS with one card for years is tough. If budget isn't an issue, SLI could be worth considering—getting a 1440p 144Hz monitor anytime would help. If you're on a 1080p 60Hz screen, upgrading that might be better. If you're using a 120Hz or 144Hz monitor at my rate, stick with it. It really depends on whether you prioritize high graphics or consistent FPS.

Certainly, we can form a reasonable assumption. Apologies for ending your gathering.

It depends. 1440p 60hz is not a worthy improvement, you'll need a bigger GPU and the jump in resolution is not worth it. But if you go 1440p 144hz, then you will be able to even skip 4k and wait for the next best thing in the future. There's nothing better than 1440p 144hz right now apart from ultrawide experiences. I wouldn't recommend waiting for 4K. It's limited to 60hz, and even if we had 4k 144hz monitor, we simply don't have any GPU in the market that would make a monitor like that justice.

Offers a clear improvement over 1080p. Playing games at 1440p demands more powerful equipment, which remains unchanged soon. For someone like me, choosing a 1440p display with a high refresh rate would be ideal. My current setup already performs well!

It seems reasonable, though Nvidia isn't as consistent as Intel, which releases updates in distinct steps, followed by improvements on those steps.
