They mentioned they won't. Dragon Range is essentially a BGA version of desktop components. They've only recently released their lineup of dragon range models. It's possible other families haven't been announced yet. At the moment, all their production focuses on desktop and server parts. I don't believe they can add more demand to that inventory right now.
Incorrect. Mobiles run with a lower wattage than their desktop counterparts so the battery will last longer before it dies. That means if used as a desktop chip, in a desktop (not in a laptop case/setup) build it will run cooler. I have several mobile chips I use in desktop builds that do well, run cooler and so on when ran in a desktop board with a desktop cooler that's appropriate for them. This has always been the case due to the nature of a lappy and how it's setup to be since it relies on a battery, not power from the wall to operate. If you use a desktop chip in a lappy with a lappy's cooling setup and such - It's death by literal heatstroke for the chip with it's higher wattage rating plus, even if it doesn't die right away you'll, see the battery go down like a dropped bag of sand. And yes, I have examples of such I can provide as proof of it - OC'ed run examples no less. Now - As far as I know these days you don't have the interchangability of lappy chips with desktop chips and that's on purpose because of the previous. If there are any laptop chips that can be used in a modern desktop socket I'm not aware of them and I doubt the board's BIOS would have the support to run them even if it can be set in the desktop's socket and powered up. I've ran into this with later examples of lappy chips ran in desktop boards and that seems to have been the trend leading up to the exclusitivity of each.
And you overlooked my point: Even with 30W laptop chips? They reach temperatures above 95 degrees and start throttling already. Laptops simply lack adequate cooling solutions. That’s a major issue for 3DVCache. Reducing the chip’s TDP can help, but it won’t prevent overheating when paired with a subpar laptop cooler.
I believe the cooling performance of powerful gaming laptops is often overlooked. It seems the only laptops being discussed are slim and lightweight models like MacBook Airs. Check out this latest review from Jarrod's Tech featuring a laptop equipped with a Core i9 13900HX 24c/32T, RTX 4080 175W graphics card, and a 330W power adapter. Even when both components are operating at full capacity, temperatures stay below 82°C. Perhaps you haven't spent much time in the gaming laptop world, but we have the tech to manage heat efficiently beyond 30W.
OK - I admit I misread what you had posted - It's been too long of a long day already and it ain't over yet. As is in a lappy case, they will run hot for sure but I do know IF used in a desktop instead they will run cooler, which was my point about it. But even with that my last on it stands. Since they no longer make chips that will interchange from lappy to desktop and vice-versa, it's really a mute point about the most recent releases. Great idea but ain't happening, nothing we can do about it.
