It depends where you are... Most have legit copies in first and second world countries, not so much in third world countries... (There is a huge market for pirated goods, imitations, and bootlegs where I live...)

I downloaded Civ 5 to experience it firsthand and purchased it afterward.

I believe everything I've ever pirated happened after I already owned the game. That's why I have the disc for SimGolf and no way to run it on a newer computer, so I downloaded an online version. The same applies to StarCraft 1 and most of Command & Conquer.

Back in the 90s, games felt very costly to me, so I now just purchase the physical discs for my collection.

Consider downloading pirated programs and try resetting the system partition after some time. A bit of reflection. If a hacker can break DRM, why assume they can’t affect your setup? Focus on media files like .avi or .mp3. Helping out is appreciated.

I downloaded a few titles mainly to see if they were enjoyable. If I liked them, I usually purchased them via Steam; otherwise, I’d remove them.

I only play a game when I can’t pay for it, and when I can, I buy it.

I haven't met anyone who has illegally downloaded a game... The majority of my games are purchased through Steam offers and Humble Bundle, which probably accounts for the reason.
