there's no hope for 10nm vs zen 3, all the rumors indicate that 10nm is screwed for desktops. As for 7nm thats at least 2021 against a mature amd platform, but that's the soonest intel will be "back". The problem now isn't even the price gouging intel did before 2019 (the 9900k is strill the best 8core chip), it's the 3950x-3990x that intel has no answer to, and there's clearly room for 64cores. Funny thing is, the 3960x and the 3970x are getting charged as a flagship product with a premium, and intel paved the road for that.
I sense AMD planning a series of updates soon—Ryzen 3rd gen with die shrink, Ryzen 4th gen focusing on architecture tweaks, Ryzen 5th with 5nm shrinking, then Ryzen 6th with further optimization. Assuming Intel keeps pushing for better chips and learns from this misstep, and AMD sticks to a yearly release cycle, Intel should close the gap by summer 2020 (10nm vs Zen 2), aligning nicely with 3000 series GPUs and DDR5. In 2021 or 2022, 7nm could line up with Ryzen 5th, possibly including Zen 3 plus GDDR6x memory. Regardless, Intel seems poised to catch up in a few years—or even sooner if they collaborate on shrinking dies and boosting cores this year at fair prices. With a big budget and strong market presence, there’s no obstacle for AMD to fall behind. Plus, Nvidia’s 3000 series could offer solid performance at a reasonable cost (around $100-$110 for a compact card). If Blue and Green perform well together, they might push AMD out of the CPU and GPU spotlight.
