he doesn't really have a grudge against pirates; he just doesn't want his mod working on pirated versions. he's stepping away from any responsibility. i totally get him. he built a mod for the official game, so why back against unofficial copies? and yeah, the mod needs the real Steam API to work properly.
Purchased it yesterday and it functions well for me. The resolution issue seems minor and it isn’t a major technical concern, but it’s a bit of a quirk. It feels like a game similar to Dark Souls, yet it’s such a solid experience that I don’t mind it at all.

In this situation, simply following the dev's instructions meant just clicking a link and checking a few boxes. That was enough to resolve the resolution scaling problem permanently. I went further voluntarily, but that was necessary to address the real issue. Developers need to be held responsible, and everyone should have their own comfort level with such matters. However, applying this rule universally could exclude many excellent games—some of the top titles—making it hard to enjoy a lot of content on PC if you don’t allow customization.
