Next-generation AMD processor on the horizon
Hey all, Many are awate for the new AMD CPU line, which supposed to come out at September, but with the COvid-19 might not happen at time. My question is what line we talking about? Every one saying Zen3 or 4000 seria. so which is it, and what its all about? Is this is what its all about ? Or maybe I missing a content I am first at using AMD CPU, and as I am plnaning to buy one, I would appreciate if anyone could elaborate for me all of comotion of upcoming CPU line. To decide should I wait for them or not, and just to buy 3700x or 3900x. As my curent Setup is failing thx to not updated MB bios combined with Windows 10 Updates, Thank you.
The 4000 series represents the product line, being the fourth generation of Ryzen processors. They utilize the Zen3 architecture.
AMD models tagged with a "G" represent integrated graphics units, meaning they combine the CPU with a dedicated GPU. Introduced in the 2000-series, these always lag one architecture behind CPU-only variants.
- 2000 Series: Zen+
- 3000 Series: Zen APU
- 4000 Series: Zen 2 APU
- 4000 Series: Zen 3 APU
Zen 2 uses APU models, while older versions like 4000 APUs are from a previous generation. For instance, 3000 CPUs correspond to Zen 2 (3000), and 2000 CPUs align with Zen + 2000.
I attempted to format the data into a table. Everyone is eagerly anticipating the desktop Ryzen 4000 series, which is expected to run on Zen 3 architecture. Mobile CPUs and APUs are still a generation behind, even though they match the numbers of next-generation processors.
The older model is expected to become more affordable once the new CPU releases.
It varies. They’re cheaper than the MSRP right now. Most Zen 2 chips are already on sale. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3600 was released for $199 but is now often available for $159. A hypothetical 4600 could also hit $199, though it would likely never return to that price again. Eventually, you might notice even lower prices, but it probably won’t happen soon. At present, they remain a great deal.
The updated processor will share the same socket? Should I consider upgrading my RAM?
b550 will be fine, that's why a 3600 is recommended even if u don't wanna wait, no point spending more on old tech. i expect a 3900x to be 200usd used in a year, a 3950x about 450usd. If you decide to go zen 3 i expect a price jump since there...isn't competition.
