I'm unsure about the cost, expecting around $799 for the 3950x. The 3900x seems likely to maintain its price, though a minor discount might appear around Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

It would be great to see you! I was expecting to purchase it at the price I found. I'm starting to feel a bit nervous about getting an upgraded PC after all this time.

It should match the 3800X performance despite having double the cores. Having twice as many cores boosts the 3800X, but the 3950X struggles with heat management. Even with a single-core maximum boost or all-core performance, it becomes too hot using the standard cooler. The stock cooler is confirmed to be "Wraith Prism with RGB LED" by AMD. Perhaps a 360 liquid cooler could help.

The processor features additional cores, though their base clocks run about 400mhz lower than the 3700 chips. This design is intended for a 65w chip, which means incorporating an extra CCX chip. Since they share the same bus chip, it's possible to reach around 105W at 3.5GHz. The performance gain comes from single-core temperature limits. From observing the 3800X, I've seen it shut down four or six cores to maintain single-thread speed, but it avoids prolonged focus on one core. On this chip, it seems to alternate cycles between the golden core and its neighbor, which isn't ideal. I anticipate seeing two golden cores per chiplet, exchanging threads to boost performance. This setup already improves the 3900X, so I expect a 3950X with two 3800X chips to deliver stronger single-thread gains. The CPU's ability to power down 3/4 to 7/8 of its capacity should help manage overall heat. If you aim for all sixteen cores at 4.3GHz+, I'd expect it to become a very hot component, but for single-thread tasks, scaling down to just two or four active cores should be much more feasible.

They are scheduled for release on November 25th. @Vance44 was right about the price, which is $749. Updated info: the 3950x won't ship without a stock cooler, and AMD suggests using an AIO cooler as the minimum requirement for CPU cooling.
